I love September. It offers refreshment after the heat of August, and the promise of Autumn is in the air. The watercolor above is from the page of one of my favorite books, "The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady." If you'e never heard of it, then you should to Amazon and buy it for 49 cents. For real. And then let me know that you have because knowing that somebody is enjoying them might keep me from ordering 10 copies, which was my impulse when I saw what it is selling for! Ben will thank you.
Today was one of my absolute favorite sorts of days. It was cool and rainy, which gave us an excuse to skip the things we were planning to go to. We had all of the windows open, so the house had this fresh, misty chill to it that I adore. Perfect excuse to put on a sweater and take some pictures of my babes playing. You will notice however that the best we could get of Samuel was the occasional foot shot.

When the rain stopped, we started a project that I am SO excited about! What could bring such joy, you might ask? Nothing but a fence for our backyard!! Samuel is my outdoors boy. He lives to be outside; from the moment those bright eyes pop open in the morning, his goal is to get outside. I love that about him, but now that I have an infant in tow it can be challenging to take him outside as often as he would like, especially since he streaks for the road every chance that he gets. Which brings us to the fence. I've dreamed about a fence for a while now...Samuel will get to be outside, and I will be able to sit on the patio instead of chasing him every other minute. Win! Samuel had no idea that he was contributing to the demise of his grand adventures out of the yard and down the road, and enthusiastically joined in the fence building.
Note: I put shoes on him after this picture was taken. No nails were stepped on! Our fence is coming along beautifully, and will probably make an appearance on here at some point. My husband is a genius, and figured out how to build the length that we need with less fencing material.
Tomorrow is a church picnic, which means that I got to bake a dessert. This is more of a treat than some may realize...when there are only two adults in the household, baking a whole dessert turns into having a sugary thing that we either let go to waste or eat ourselves, both of which are a bad plan...anyways, the cool weather had me in the mood for a campfire, and that led to having s'mores on the brain, which inspired a dessert that was a layer of graham cracker yumminess, a layer of chocolate stuff, and then, oh my goodness, homemade marshmallow fluff. You guys, if you get nothing else from this entire post, get this: go make homemade marshmallow fluff. Or come to my house and let me make it for you, because:

Yum.
Ok, the only other thing you need to know about our Saturday is that I beat Ben at a game of rummy. Once upon a time, I was convinced that I would never beat Ben at a card game. Aging is a wonderful thing :)
